Dakota 'NB taxies
in after arriving from the Channel Islands. This aircraft flew with
the RAF in WW2 as FD789 and is the oldest surviving Dakota to serve with
the RAF. Constructed at Long Beach, California in 1942 as USAAF 42-32817
it arrived in the UK for the RAF in April 1943. Retired from military
service in 1946 it was 'civilianised' by Scottish Aviation at Prestwick
in 1947 and flew in Burma as XY-CAN until 1950 when it was bought by BEA
and registered as G-AKNB. In 1959 it was sold to Silver City Airways and
subsequently British United Airways before going to Intra in 1969 until
1978. Preserved in the UK from 1982 and moved to the USA in 1994.
